Our 32 square mile community in central Somerset County borders 11 other municipalities. We are home to 3600 acres of public and private parks and recreation opportunities. Bridgewater boasts Blue Ribbon schools, job opportunities in national and international pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, and is home to the championship winning Somerset Patriots and Bridgewater Commons Mall, as well as numerous other shopping opportunities and hotels.

History of Bridgewater

The thirty-three square mile area which is now the Township of Bridgewater was originally purchased from a local Indian tribe. Chartered by King George II of England in 1749, and incorporated in 1798, Bridgewater is a modern suburban municipality with a balance of residential and commercial uses. In the early years, Bridgewater was known as a farming town. What is now Somerville and Raritan were once part of Bridgewater Township until they broke away years after the chartering.

Today, as was said, Bridgewater is a diverse and thriving township with a mix of both rural and suburban life. Bridgewater Township is prime ground for many new and large businesses, including Sanofi-Aventis, J&J, MetLife, and Phillips-Van Heusen. Bridgewater has progressed rapidly from its rural roots, and will continue to grow in the future.

Middlebrook Trail

The Middlebrook trail, located mostly in Bridgewater, NJ. The site is home to many fantastic plants and animals, but the biggest contributions which have made the trail increase in popularity are the many projects done by Eagle Scouts and other contributors. Without the help of eagle scouts and volunteers, including building bridges, boardwalks, and stairs on steep hills, the trail would not be what it is today
