Township Clerk
The Municipal Clerk is a statutory position. Under Bridgewater's form of government, the Clerk is appointed by the Township Council, and is the direct link between the residents and their government. The Municipal Clerk's duties are secretary to the municipal corporation and the governing body, chief administrative officer in all elections, coordinator and records manager of local archives and record retention, licensing official for licenses including alcoholic beverages, dogs, cats, raffles, bingo and other games of chance, and other duties as imposed by statute, regulation or municipal ordinance.

· Dog/Cat License Application (can be mailed or submitted in person) – Please be sure to include the pet’s rabies vaccination certificate and proof whether the pet has been altered/spayed.

· Limousine Application (must be submitted in person) – The Township requires the original certificate of insurance in the amount NO LESS than $1.5 million and requires Bridgewater Township be named on the certificate together with a check for $25 for each vehicle.

· Maps (street, zoning, fire districts, voting districts) can be purchased in the Clerk’s office for $10.

Township Code – Land-use books (Chapter 126 of the Municipal Code) are available in the Clerk’s office. This includes a zoning map. The fee is $50. - Township Code is available online.

· Landlord Statements (can be mailed or submitted in person) – The statements must be filed annually with the Municipal Clerk’s office.

· Bingo Applications and Raffle Applications (must be submitted in person to the Clerk's office ) – All applications of organizations NOT on file must adhere to the following requirements:

o Must show original copy of organization’s registration card from NJ Legalized Game of Chance Control Commission

o All applications must be filed in quadruplicate with ORIGINAL signatures of at least two members and one officer in charge

o All applications must be notarized

o Organization should be prepared to submit two checks for fees that may be incurred when applications are submitted

o New organizations must include a copy of its by-laws


Elections and Voting Information

The Municipal Clerk is the Chief Administrative Officer in all elections held in the municipality and the Chief Registrar of Voters in the municipality. To be eligible to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the next ensuing election, be a United States citizen and be a resident of the State of New Jersey and of the County at least 30 days before the election. Registration of new voters is required prior to the 28th day preceding the election. Voters may register after the deadline, but registrant should be advised that he will not be eligible to vote in the election immediately forthcoming but will be eligible to vote in elections held thereafter. Evening registration is held at the Somerset County Administration Building , from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the twenty-ninth (29th) day prior to election.

· Voter Registration (can be mailed or submitted in person) – Requirements for registration:

o Be a U.S. citizen

o Be a resident of Somerset County for 30 days prior to the election.

o Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election

o Not be on parole, probation or serving sentence due to a conviction for an indictable offense under any federal or state laws.

· Application for Mail-In Ballot The application must be either mailed to the County Clerk seven days prior to the election OR must be handed in at the County Clerk’s office before 3 p.m. on the day prior to the election.

Residents can participate in the electoral process not only by voting, but by serving as an Election Board Worker at the polling places. The Somerset County Board of Elections is seeking qualified district board workers to staff the polls in Bridgewater Township and throughout the County during the primary and general elections. The hours on Election Day are from 5:15 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. The pay is $200 for the day. A one-hour training class is required.
