Council President Scaglione requested the Eagle Scouts and Adult Advisor’s in attendance come forward to be recognized for their Eagle Scout Project.
Eagle Scouts included:
Sahill Dhawan, 15 Revere Avenue
Matthew Driscoll, 16 Claire drive
Patrick Gibney, 31 Red Oak Way

Eagle Scout Adult Advisor’s included:
Kevin Driscoll, Green Knoll Fire Company (Project Coordinator)

John Litchig, Project Advisor, Martinsville Fire Company
Council President Scaglione stated six members of Boy Scout Troops 88 and 154 worked with each of the six fire departments covering Bridgewater Township to map out and program hydrant maps as their Eagle Scout Project. The Scouts organized the information into a database format that was suitable for use in the Geographic Information System (GIS) and created a fire hydrant layer for the system. He added since the Global Position System is extremely accurate, the data gathered from the GPS pinpoints the exact location of every fire hydrant when added to the road map layer of the GIS system and provides a fast and accurate method for locating fire hydrants. He added Bridgewater Township has approximately 1300 hydrant.
Using the GIS system with this additional layer of information, fire fighters are able to know in advance the location of the closest hydrant, to the burning building which saves them precious time.
Council President Scaglione read Jim Girvan, of the Somerset County GIS noted Bridgewater Township to be the first in Somerset County to have fire hydrants GIS’d by a volunteer group.
